The French philosopher Voltaire wrote “Cultivate your own garden,” in his 1759 satire Candide ou l’Optimisme. The allegory behind the phrase is attributed to the lead character, Candide, who embarks on a quest around the world for happiness; but is met with despair and monstrosity instead. Throughout his travels, Candide remains optimistic that things will get better, but in the end, he learns true infinite joy is found within. This beautiful morale inspired the namesake behind Swiss-Belgian designer Liora Nuchowicz's brand as she sets out to define new standards in jewelry design.

Candide creates collectible jewelry objects to entice curiosity, and encourage admiration for all things alluring and unique. Founded in Liora’s Brooklyn studio, Candide is the fruit of her lifelong fondness with the art of adornment. Inspired by a childhood ritual of picking out her earrings of the day as the central touch to her otherwise minimalist look, Liora chose to explore the potential of these wondrous jewelry objects.
